Shrubs Play a Vital Role
Shrubs are a critical component to every garden. They provide structure, beauty, and a foundational stability to your garden. In addition, they have many uses such as providing privacy, shade, improving soil stability, providing places for wildlife, and improving the air quality around your home. No matter what space you are trying to fill, we can help you determine the right shrub for your needs.
What Type of Shrubs Should I Plant?
There are a lot of wonderful shrubs to choose from. The type of shrub to plant will depend on what spaces you are trying to fill in your yard. Some shrubs stay as low as 1 foot tall, while others can grow up to 15 feet tall. Whether you are trying to cover a small space or create a privacy screen, we are happy to help you find the right shrub for your garden. Some of our favorite shrubs include Acacia Cousin Itt, Abelia, Coleonema, Leucadendron, Rhaphiolepis, Escallonia, Dwarf Olive, Euonymus, Pittosporum, Polygala, Arctostaphylos, Ceanothus, Cistus, Coprosma, Hebe, Lantana, Lagerstroemia, Callistemon, Myrica, Grevillea, and Nandina.
Maintaining Your Shrubs
Shrubs generally are pretty easy to maintain. We recommend fertilizng at least once in the spring and once in the fall for most shrubs. An additional application of fertilizer in early summer could be helpful for shrubs that tend to flower more frequently. And occasional pruning may be needed for shaping or trimming off dead flowers.
