Planting Bareroot Fruit Trees

Step 1

Select a sunny spot in your yard that will get at least 6 to 8 hours of full sun during the day. Dig a large hole at least 2 to 3 feet wide and 1 1/2 to 2 feet deep.

Step 2

Fill your hole with a mixture of Gold Rush and teh native soil you removed from the hole, building the soil level back high enough that your roots will rest on top of the new soil mix.

Step 3

Place your new fruit tree on top of the new soil mix, making sure your surrounding ground level will be even or slightly lower than the top of the root ball. Make sure not to bury the graft point on your fruit tree.

Step 4

Continue filling in your planting hole with more of the Gold Rush and native soil mix, making sure to lightly tamp your soil in and around the roots of your tree. Be sure your soil level is only about and inch above the existing roots. You may need to add some additional soil after watering to bring soil back to previous height.
